RESEARCH / UPDATED 2026
AI coding tools cost comparison, 2026.
A $20 coding subscription can mean very different things depending on included products, models, and usage rules. This 2026 comparison separates published base prices from what they actually buy.

Sources checked October 17, 2026. Prices are US web subscription prices where stated, excluding tax. Plans and limits can change; verify at checkout. Subscription allowances are not directly equivalent across tools.
Cursor's official pricing and model documents describe plan-specific usage pools and on-demand charges. Because its plans and regional presentation are changing, we link to the live pricing page and usage documentation rather than freeze a potentially stale figure.
How to compare a real month
Set a common task mix and repository. Record the base subscription, taxes, extra usage, and any separate products you would otherwise buy. Divide total monthly spend by completed tasks only after recording task quality and retries. A per-session subscription average is useful for budgeting, but it is not a model inference price or a benchmark score.
For a repeatable test, use the benchmark template. To explore fixed subscription cost per session, use the calculator.
